Sandra Schmidtke is a professional writer whose skill set runs the gamut from grant and proposal writing to fiction to speech-writing. Her writing experience spans research, creation of deliverables, editing, and reporting. Previous clients hail from both the cultural and business sector; this diversity of experience contributes to the adaptive and unique focus Sandra brings to every task she takes on.

Sandra holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Manitoba. Her creative writing has appeared in print and online, and recently, she won the San Miguel Writers’ Conference 2019 Writing Contest in Fiction. This aspiring novelist believes that the written word can change the world, and applies this passion to her role on the Marketing and Communications team at Republic.

A sure-fire way to get Sandra talking is to mention active transportation. An avid cyclist, Sandra believes that bike lanes are the future of Winnipeg, and that more bicycles on the road will lead to a happier, healthier province.

Like a typical English major, Sandra couldn’t pick one favourite book. Her top three are: The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck, Lamb by Christopher Moore, and Ablutions by Patrick deWitt.

Sandra’s greatest achievement was a 235km Costa Rican odyssey of cycling, hiking, white-water rafting and kayaking that saw her cross the Talamanca Mountain Range in nine days. A flatlander at heart, Sandra credits her survival to a never-say-die attitude and a bottle of wine.
